Invisalign clear aligners serve as an alternative to traditional braces by correcting issues including crooked or crowded teeth, closing gaps and adjusting overbites. The treatment consists of wearing a series of custom-fit plastic trays for at least 20 hours a day until the desired results are achieved. Every two weeks, the current aligner is replaced with a new one, slowly adjusting the positioning of the teeth over time. Invisalign treatment typically lasts anywhere between one and two years.
There are many advantages that Invisalign aligners offer over traditional metal braces. Invisalign aligners are transparent in color, making them very discreet and nearly invisible to others. They are also removable, and they are taken out for easy cleaning and whenever the wearer is eating. This gives the user the freedom to eat and drink whatever they would like during treatment, while also maintaining their regular oral hygiene habits. Invisalign treatment is also often recommended rather than braces for individuals who participate in contact sports.
Invisalign treatment, however, is not for everyone. Issues such as severely rotated teeth and large spacing issues may not be able to be properly fixed using Invisalign. Since Invisalign is removable, an unmotivated patient may take their aligner out too often, preventing the desired results from being achieved. Despite these limitations, many patients find that Invisalign is a convenient and effective method for correcting various orthodontic issues.
