When teeth experience damage or decay, dental fillings are used to restore their health and structure. Fillings work by sealing off spaces where food particles and bacteria can enter the inner areas of a tooth, causing further damage. The procedure is extremely common, and most dental patients will receive a filling at some point in their lifetime. At Dental American Group, we are proud to provide our patients with tooth-colored fillings that are virtually indistinguishable from healthy, natural teeth.
Also known as composite fillings, tooth-colored fillings are constructed using top-quality quartz and specialized glass. They are carefully crafted to be incredibly durable and highly-resistant to fractures. Unlike traditional silver fillings, tooth-colored fillings are not prone to leaking, providing a tight, secure fit that adds to the overall strength of the tooth.
Receiving a Tooth-Colored Filling
When conducting a dental filling, the first step is to remove all decayed portions of the tooth. Once the tooth is fully clean, composite material is applied to fill any empty spaces within the tooth. Using a special dental curing light, the filling is hardened to give it the stability and strength of a healthy tooth. Finally, the tooth is polished and shaped to give it a natural appearance.
After the procedure is completed, the dentist will make sure that the patient has a normal bite and that the treated tooth is not experiencing any discomfort. Once the process is over, the patient will be able to fully resume their normal eating, brushing and flossing habits.
